Meet The Team

When I was at school a teacher said to me “you will never get a job sat on your arse and looking out of a window!”

Until recently, my job was to look out of a window and pull levers… all while sat on my arse!

My Name is Mark Brewster and I’ve recently joined Mindset Training as an additional director to Neil, and NPORS plant instructor. I started my career in the construction industry over 10 years ago as a general labourer, multi tradesman and worked my way up to ganger.

I remember when I was just starting out, tickets were rarely required – you learnt while on the job. As long as you could use a shovel, put in some hard graft and did all that was asked, you were put on the machines as a reward! While driving plant I was in my element. Living a childhood dream; operating diggers, telehandlers, tractors, dumpers, skid steers and rollers.

As my experience and confidence grew, an old boss put me through plant courses so I held the relevant tickets as well as the experience.

Before long though I was back on the ground, working as a foreman and site supervisor. My aim was to build up to management, but couldn’t resist being drawn back to the plant – nothing like a little bit of demolition or reshaping the landscape around you!

At the beginning of 2018 I was on the search for a new venture. Looking to pass on my skills, experience and stories of plant operations to others who were just starting out. With some great timing, Neil approached me looking to expand Mindset Training in offering NPORS plant training. I’ve known Neil for years, as an old construction boss, door supervisor (many, many years ago) and being a candidate myself at Mindset Training! I’ve always enjoyed the way Mindset deliver courses, with instructors having proper muddy boots experience – sharing stories and laughs whilst on the course!

I’m hugely excited to be in the position I am now. Co-Director and trainer of Mindset, delivering training to the highest standards – I’m proud to be part of the team. My focus in 2019 is now on developing our NPORS courses. We’re delighted to open our brand new NPORS Training Centre based just outside of Frome in February – with our first 10-day Novice course being fully booked!

With plant qualifications on the rise, we plan to be the biggest training centre for complete novices and experienced operators in the South West – no monotone PowerPoints, useless trainers or corner cutting. Honest, quality training to keep you safe.

We are always open to new technologies and equipment and move with the ever changing industry – I’m looking forward to 2019, a big year ahead!
