Meet The Team

My name is Neil McGuinness, and I am the Managing Director of Mindset Training. I have worked in Construction and Highway/Motorway maintenance since I was 16 years old, which is many, many moons ago! In that time, I’ve had various roles; from Tea Boy, Measurement Engineer, Labourer, Ground Worker, 2nd Man, Foreman, Supervisor, Manager, Contracts Manager, and now Managing Director.

During my construction career I’ve seen huge swings within health and safety, and the way the industry is recognising that without qualification and competence, accidents are bound to happen. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but at some point, unqualified and incompetent individuals will be the cause of accidents or worse.

I remember the days when you would get out of the work van in trainers and rugby shorts, and just get on with the job. Concreting, tarmacing, on the jack hammer for hours at a time, and if you complained you’d get a thick ear, and if you complained again you’d get a second!

The industry has now changed… and how for the better. I stumbled into construction training due to the lack of good standard training in the South West of England, and personally found whilst attending courses myself, there was not a great emphasis put on training standards. Some seemed more interested in getting signatures for evidence and reading a script to you in a monotone voice via a PowerPoint…. Surely a cure for insomnia?

I decided to start our own Construction Training Company on 23rd October 2012 as a NRSWA Streetworks Centre, and then soon after becoming registered as a CITB Health, Safety and Environment Testing Centre too. More recently (April 2016), we have also become an NPORS Plant testing centre, eligible to teach and test both Novices and Experienced Workers on many items of plant, including Excavators, Dumpers, Rollers, and Telehandlers.

Our training is to the highest standard and whilst we appreciate that all candidates must achieve recognised standards, we also understand the complexities of getting a workforce trained.

Our training is to the highest standard and whilst we appreciate that all candidates must achieve recognised standards, we also understand the complexities of getting a workforce trained. Whether it be the ability to get your guys offsite and into the classroom environment, or the reluctance of individuals due to confidence or stubbornness, I’ve seen it all! That’s where we differ from the majority of the Cowboys out there – yes I did say Cowboys, as some of the trainers I have met since starting could not deliver a letter, never mind a training course!

We work with our clients to reduce the confusion and frustration – helping them select the correct courses for their workforce, implementing training solutions, and helping reduce time and effort being wasted strolling through the minefield of Health, Safety and Construction Training. Whether it’s on-site training, weekends, or building bespoke tailored courses to meet our individual client’s needs, we take pride in delivering courses to the best standard we can.

We are well versed with juniors or candidates with numeracy and literary or other learning difficulties and can support in many areas at many levels. Whilst we will never lower our standards or turn a blind eye, we will give all candidates the best chance at gaining their required qualification!

Mindset Training, Your Success is Our Aim.
